Behind the music
Born and raised in Edinburgh, George Neill has had a long and successful career in the design industry, but has been immersed in and inspired by music since the age of five.
Initially studying piano under a respected local jazz musician, he later added flute, clarinet and – inevitably – guitar to his instrumental arsenal. He has played and sung in rock bands since his early 20s, most prominently with popular Edinburgh blues band the Block Brothers. He has vast experience on the live circuit in and around central Scotland, frequently playing his own material.
The arrival of Covid-19 coincided with his stepping back from his design career, and gave him the perfect opportunity to focus on his real passion – music. He built a small home studio and set about building a repertoire of varied material to share with listeners in ways he couldn't imagine twenty years ago.
"I'm amazed at what technology makes possible these days," he says "but there's no getting away from the heart of the thing being the song, the song, the song".
Collaborations

Influences
"The first piece of music I remember hearing was from a musical jewellery box my mother had that played what I discovered much later to be Glenn Miller's Stardust. It absolutely fascinated me, and I'm sure that's where my love of melody initially came from.
And I've always - always – wanted to know what the lyrics of my favourite songs are. My mother used to write them down in shorthand off the radio for me so I could learn them.
For me, a great song is a perfect combination of the two, and my songwriting influences reflect that. Lennon and McCartney, Becker and Fagan, Andy Partridge, Neil Finn, Elvis Costello, 10cc, John Hiatt, Peter Gabriel....I could go on, but you get the idea."
Live performance
Two Tone Dog is available for bookings for live performances in central Scotland as a solo acoustic artist, a duo, or as a member of Fired, a four piece band from Edinburgh and East Lothian and the Borders playing classic rock and pop covers.
